At Restoration House, we recognise the importance of holistic well-being, encompassing both spiritual and physical health. In alignment with this understanding, we acknowledge the brain as a critical organ and an integral part of the human body, much like the heart or lungs. This perspective is rooted in the belief that God has wonderfully created each part of our body with a specific purpose, as expressed in Psalms 139:14, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
At The Restoration House, we emphasise that seeking medical or therapeutic assistance for issues related to the brain is not contrary to faith in God. Just as one would consult a doctor for a physical ailment, it is equally valid to seek professional counselling or therapy for mental health concerns. This approach does not diminish one's faith or trust in God; rather, it acknowledges that He has provided us with resources and individuals equipped to address specific needs. James 1:17 reminds us, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." Professional counselling and therapy are seen as gifts from God, intended for our well-being and healing.
Furthermore, while pastoral counselling plays a vital role in spiritual guidance and support, we recognise its limitations. Pastors and ministers, though skilled in spiritual matters, are not trained to perform complex medical procedures like open-heart surgery or to prescribe medications. Similarly, when it comes to mental health issues, there are times when the expertise of a trained counsellor or therapist is necessary. These professionals can provide a more comprehensive assessment and treatment for mental health concerns, complementing the spiritual support provided by the church.
At Restoration House, we support the integration of spiritual guidance with professional mental health care. We maintain a list of Christian counsellors and therapists for referral, ensuring that those in our community have access to comprehensive care that addresses both their spiritual and mental health needs. By embracing this approach, we aim to foster complete healing and well-being in accordance with God's desire for each individual.
